By signing on behalf of Edinburgh in 2019, the then Lord Provost commits that the city and the Council will reflect the Vision’s four principles of being fair, pioneering, welcoming and thriving in all current and future activity.

Commitments include:

  • Tackling poverty

  • Delivering a net zero carbon city

  • Promoting the wellbeing of residents

Signing the 2050 Edinburgh Charter is part of our commitment to our social and civic responsibilities.

Being a good and welcoming neighbour to our fellow citizens is a priority for the University of Edinburgh, and our Community Plan illustrates our willingness to build an even closer connection with our city and its communities. Our commitments are split into the following categories:

Commitments include:

  • Undertook a three-year partnership with Castlebrae High School, focusing on creating a profoundly meaningful, personal and lasting experience for the pupils.

  • Through workshops, one-on-one mentoring sessions and work experience programmes, pupils developed new social and communicative skills as well as vital professional experience, helping them towards reaching positive destinations.

  • First Minister Nicola Sturgeon praised the positive outcomes, saying that “projects like this that connect with and involve local communities are so important.

Commitments include:

  • Being a Living Wage employer and promoting fairness and equality throughout their networks to help Edinburgh become a Living Wage city.

  • Responding to the recommendations of the Edinburgh Poverty Commission and endeavour to weave this into all contract management, commissioning and procurement activities.

  • Pioneering better partnership working, bringing influencers and stakeholders together for a more joined up approach to improve employability outcomes for all.
